The widespread use of massive AI systems threatens the very foundations of democracy. In the digital sphere, traditional participatory formats such as citizens’ assemblies currently have virtually no place. Commercial algorithmic decisions are becoming increasingly opaque. They are having an increasingly exclusionary and anti-democratic effect.

ai.COUNCIL consistently challenges these developments, both in the digital and real worlds. This is because the project develops AIs using a bottom-up approach. With our support, participants can develop small communicative AIs. These are connected to form an AI system: the ai.COUNCIL. Each small AI has its own voice and means of communication within the system. In advance, participants consider which topic the ai.COUNCIL should address in the first session. The AI system will produce an outcome based on the topic. What? We’ll experiment and see.

With the help of art, we transcend virtual boundaries and bring the communicative AIs and the ai.COUNCIL into the real world. We create an interactive installation that illustrates the bottom-up system. The first immersive session is planned for September.

Enough is enough! Let’s reclaim the internet and the entire digital space! Let’s set up an ai.COUNCIL and work together to decide how we want to go about it. We’ll start by taking over Lause 10. From there, we’ll spread out like a swarm. The digital world remains our world! Not a single bit for Big Tech and autocrats!
